The group's principal activity is to manufacture and supply lead acid batteries worldwide. It operates under three segments: transportation, motive power and network power. Transportation segment includes batteries for cars, trucks, off-road vehicles, agricultural and construction vehicles, motorcycles, recreational vehicles, boats and other applications. Motive power segment provides batteries used in forklift trucks and other electric vehicles. Network power segment provides batteries used for back-up power applications, such as those for telecommunication systems, computers, hospitals, process control, air traffic control, security systems, utility, railway and military applications. The customers include at&t, british telecom, daimler chrysler,toyota and nippon. It operates in the North America, Europe, the Middle East, India, Australia and New Zealand. The group filed for bankruptcy in Apr 2002 and emerged from such proceedings on 05-May-2004.
